THE LIST of big-named personalities attending the March 19 super-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales continues to grow with First Gentleman Mike Arroyo confirming his presence at ringside on fight night.
The First Gentleman revealed yesterday that he is scheduled to leave Manila on March 18 to watch Pacquiao shoot for immortality before a capacity crowd of 15,000 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
"If my schedule allows me to leave on the night of March 17, I will do that pero meron pa kasi akong affair on that day," said Arroyo when he attended a weekly forum with sportswriters at the Kamayan Restaurant in Ermita.
Arroyo is among the high-profile individuals who have confirmed their attendance in Las Vegas to cheer for the Filipino southpaw.
Joining Arroyo there are former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson, Davao mayor Rodrigo Duterte, North Cotabato Gov. Manny Piñol, former Ombudsman Aniano Desierto, General Santos City mayor Pedro Acharon and action star Robin Padilla. Filipinos living in California, Nevada and from different US cities are also expected to rally behind Pacquiao.
From the local boxing community, those heading to Las Vegas are Rudy Salud, Cebu tandem Tony Aldeguer and Sammy Gello-ani, the troika of Ramon Lainez, Lito Mondejar and Gerry Garcia, all from the weekly boxing program In This Corner, and ex-world champ Gerry Peñalosa.
A sell-out crowd is being predicted for the 12-round super-featherweight match as the fans of both fighters continue to scramble for tickets priced at $400, $300, $200 and $125. All 2,800 tickets at $75 have already been purchased.
For $44.95, fight fans in the US can watch the megabuck duel in the luxury of their living rooms on HBO Pay-Per-View.
Meanwhile, Solar Sports, the official carrier of the Pacquiao-Morales bout on channel 9, is showing primers on March 6 and 13 beginning from 1-3 p.m.
The program will include exclusive footage of Pacquiao’s training at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, as well as that of Morales in the mountains of Mexico City. It will also include features taken from interviews conducted with promoters Bob Arum and Murad Muhammad and US fight experts.
